Changes to SGI leadership

On 17 November, during the twenty-second SGI Board of Directors Meeting, the amended Constitution of the Soka Gakkai was unanimously approved. The amendments acknowledge First Soka Gakkai President Makiguchi ‘for founding the Soka Gakkai’; and second President Josei Toda ‘for calling forth 750,000 Bodhisattvas of the Earth’ and clarify that the Soka Gakkai regards President Ikeda as ‘the mentor of worldwide kosen-rufu and the President and spiritual leader of SGI in perpetuity’.


On 18 November, the SGI Representative Leaders Conference was held at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Tokyo. Yoshiki Tanigawa (pictured here) was selected as SGI General Director, succeeding Yoshitaka Oba, who was appointed as SGI Advisor.

In addition, a new leadership system was put into place with the following individuals appointed as SGI Vice General Directors: Shigeo Hasegawa , Hiromasa Ikeda, Danny Nagashima, Hideaki Takahashi, Yumiko Kasanuki, Julio Kosaka, Hiromichi Oyama, Tariq Hasan, Suzanne Pritchard, Ida Gbodossou Adjévi, Sueli Soyano Ogawa, Lydia Salas Díaz, Toshio Kanazawa, Hirotsugu Terasaki and Shinji Shimizu.
